IMMEDIATE RELEASE...SLOW
FOODS INTERNATIONAL TO BROWARD
Christine's
Restaurant, South Florida's newest, critically-acclaimed eatery stages
a special dinner Wednesday, March 19 recognizing the Gold and Treasure Coast (GTC) Convivium's Slow
Foods International award and celebrates its inaugural
dinner.
Slow
Foods is an international organization founded in Italy dedicated to
TASTE, EDUCATION, BIODIVERSITY and BUILDING FOOD COMMUNITIES.
Christine's
Fort Lauderdale, opened in January, and is committed to elevating the
quality of food as well as providing an exceptional environment within
which one can take the time to fully enjoy it. GTC Slow Food convivium
believes the appreciation of exquisite food and wine hinges on shared
efforts to save countless traditional cheeses, grains, vegetables,
fruits, and animal breeds that are disappearing from dinner tables due
to the kind of mediocrity (or worse) promoted by the fast food industry
and contemporary agribusiness.
Christine's
March 19 dining event is a culinary education, broadening awareness of
the fact we rely on a declining number of crop species for human
nutrition. Today, less than 30 plants provide 95% of the world's
nutrition. In the past century alone, 300,000 plant species have become
extinct. The worldwide stock of large ocean fish has diminished by 90%
since WW II due primarily to intensive industrial fishing, a practice
that has nearly destroyed this traditional source of food.
Wednesday, March 19, 6:30 PM
Christine's and GTC Slow Food
celebrates the bounty of our South Florida table with tastes and
flavors to savor that only regional cooking can provide while
supporting the Slow Foods international effort of sustainable farming
and fishing.
Christine's located at 2671 East
Oakland Park Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.
There will be pairings of carefully selected wines with free-range
poultry from Crazy Hart Ranch in Fellsmere, Florida; vegetables from
Swank Farms and Varri Green Farms; as well as local Turtle Creek Farms
cheeses and locally caught sustainable fish.
